Create an invoice

12 helpful answers

Do I need an account?

Getting started

No. Open Create invoice or Create receipt, enter your business and customer details, add at least one item, and save your PDF. An account adds profile prefilling and a workspace for managing your records.

What is the difference between an invoice and a receipt?

Documents

An invoice requests payment. A receipt records a payment you have received. Choose an invoice when money is still owed; choose a receipt after the payment has arrived.

How do I create my first document?

Documents

Choose Create a document to open an invoice. Enter your business and customer names, an item description, quantity and rate. Choose your currency, add any tax, shipping or discount, then review the live preview and select Save & download PDF. You cannot save a document without an item.

How do logos and guest details work?

Documents

You can add a PNG, JPG or WebP logo up to 2 MB. Guest business and customer details are saved with the document, but guest logo files stay in your browser and downloaded PDF. For signed-in users, add your reusable logo and business details in Profile.

How do I use my profile?

Your workspace

Sign in and open Profile from the account menu. Save your business name, contact details, preferred currency, tax and logo. New invoices and receipts use these details to reduce retyping. You can review them before saving.

What happens when I mark an invoice paid?

Your workspace

Open the invoice from your workspace and select Mark as paid only after you have received payment. The original invoice stays in your records and a separate linked receipt is created automatically. This also happens when you create a paid invoice while signed in.

How do I track expenses?

Your workspace

Open Accounting, choose Expenses, then Record expense. Enter the date, vendor, category, description and amount. Save the expense to return to your expense records. Expenses are separate from the invoices and receipts you issue to customers.

Will my dashboard remember its selected tab?

Your workspace

Yes. Overview, Invoices, Receipts and Expenses each have a link ending in #overview, #invoices, #receipts or #expenses. Reloading or bookmarking that URL keeps you on the same section.

How do I download or share a document?

Downloads

Save & download PDF saves the record and prepares a PDF on your device. Signed-in users can also open a saved invoice or receipt and choose Download PDF. Attach the downloaded file to an email or send it using your preferred messaging app. Long documents automatically continue onto additional pages.

Why was I signed out on my other device?

Account access

Your account has one active session at a time. Signing in on a new device ends the previous session. The previous device updates when it makes another request or checks its session.

How do I reset my password?

Account access

Choose Forgot password on the sign-in page. Enter your account email and open the reset link sent to your inbox. Choose a new password with at least 8 characters, uppercase and lowercase letters, a number and a special character. If the link has expired, request another one.

My download did not appear. What should I do?

Downloads

Check your browser downloads and allow downloads for this site. Keep the editor open and try Save & download PDF again; an unchanged document in the same editor session is not saved twice. If a logo cannot load, remove it or choose a different image.
